How To Add Vehicles

In ElasticRoute, at least one vehicle has to be added into your account before you can start planning. The stops will be assigned to the Vehicle/s automatically during planning.

In this tutorial, you will find the steps to add vehicle/s for route planning.

There are 2 methods to add vehicle/s into your account:

How To Add Vehicle Manually

  1. Navigate to Settings > Vehicles > Add Vehicle

  2. Fill in the fields.
      Required fields:

    • Name
    • Available From
    • Available Till

  3. Click Save when done.

Importing Through CSV

Alternatively, you may choose to import your list of vehicles in CSV to create your vehicles.

  1. Prepare a CSV list of your vehicles.

      Notes:

    • Enter a 0 for fields that you wish to disable.
    • To enter multiple entries for Types, Zones and Groups, use | to separate the various entries.
      For example, Type1|Type2|Type3; Zone1|Zone2|Zone3; and Group1|Group2|Group3.
    • The From and To are using a 24-hr time settings. For example, enter 1500 for 3 pm; and 2000 for 8 pm.
    • Refer to the table below for explanation of the field names.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Vehicles.
  3. Click on the Import button > Import From CSV.

Table For Vehicle Field Names
Field Name Type Description
General
Name String Unique name to identify your driver.
Vehicle Types String To be used with the Vehicle Type specified for your stop.
For use with special deliveries.
Only the stops with the selected Vehicle Types will be assigned to the vehicle.

Groups String To be used with the Group specified for your stop.
For use to separate your runs.
Only the stops with the selected run will be assigned to the vehicle.

Zones String Geofence, a virtual perimeter to confine the stops to an area.
The Zone option will only appear if it has been set up under Settings > Zones.

Unzoned String For use when Zones are being setup.
The Zone option will only appear if it has been set up under Settings > Zones.
Stops are not within a zone would be tagged with Unzoned.

Depot String Starting location of the vehicle.
To be used with Settings > Depot.
If not defined, it will take the depot marked as Default or the selection under Settings > Plan > General Depot Selection.

End Depot String End location of the vehicle.

Buffer Integer Buffer time (%) for the vehicle.
For adjusting the traveling time between the stops to account for the speed of the vehicle.
The higher the number, the longer the time taken for the travel.

Capacity
Weight Float Weight limit of your vehicle.
To be used with the weight load of your stop to prevent overloading the vehicle.
This weight field is taking an arbitrary unit of measurement.
For example, you may choose to define it in kg, pounds, or tonnes.

Volume Float Volume limit of your vehicle.
To be used with the volume load of your stop to prevent overloading the vehicle.
This volume field is taking an arbitrary unit of measurement.
For example, you may choose to define it in liters, cubic meters, or gallons.

Seating Float Seating limit of your vehicle.
To be used with the seating capacity of your stop.
You may enter the number of passengers, boxes or cartons that this vehicle can carry.
This seating field is taking an arbitrary unit of measurement.

Max Time / Run Integer The maximum time the vehicle can travel per run.

Max Distance / Run Integer The maximum distance that the vehicle can travel per run.

Max Stops / Run Integer The maximum number of stops that the vehicle can take per run.

Max Time / Day Integer The maximum time constraint that the vehicle can travel per day.

Max Distance / Day Integer The maximum distance constraint that the vehicle can travel per day.

Max Stops / Day Integer The maximum stops constraint that the vehicle can perform per day.

Max Runs Integer The maximum runs constraint that the vehicle can perform per day.

Availability
Available for routing Checkbox Enabling this will allow the stops to be assigned to this vehicle.
Weekdays Checkbox Check the days that the driver will be working.
The stops will only be assigned to the vehicle if the day is checked.
Availability From Integer Starting time of the vehicle.
For use with the working hours of the driver, e.g. the driver starts work at 8 am.

Availability Till Integer Ending time of the vehicle.
For use with the working hours of the driver, e.g. the driver ends work at 5 pm.

Break Time Window Option Time when the vehicle is taking a break.

Priority Integer For prioritizing vehicles for stop assignment.
The stops will be assigned to vehicles with a higher priority first.

Service Radius Integer For limiting the distance (meters) where the vehicle can travel away from the depot.
Stops outside of the defined radius will not be assigned to the vehicle.

Return To Depot
Return to depot Checkbox The system will take the traveling time to return to the depot into consideration when assigning stops to the driver.
If the traveling time to return to depot is out of the vehicle's working time, the stop will not be assigned to the vehicle.
Used to trigger between Open-Path and Closed-Path routing.
